Piper Inc. is an education technology company that creates a computer kit for children ages 8-13 and we prioritize B2B sales toward schools and education(EDU). Our product focuses on teaching how to create circuits and control hardware components using code. The following are examples of animated shorts used to convey how to safely use the new additions to the sensor explorer kit add-on to their base product. 8 different animation/motion graphics were made. 2 versions of those animations were done over the course of the project timeline.

I created most of the animations, motion graphics and assets. Some assets and animations were recycled from other parts of the game and those were made by a visual designer, Peter Le.

All video production over the course of the 2 versions were made in 4 weeks.

My Role and Duration

Tools and Methods

The Majority of the assets were created in photoshop or illustartor and then pieced together in premier. We also used aftereffects for some parts.

Project Goals

There were 2 distinct goals for these animations that were rather quickly developed.

  1. We had noticed a wiring problem when developing for our new sensors. In order to teach children proper wiring technique so as not to hurt themselves, we decided videos would be created. On the other end production, a solution for the wiring issue was developed, so we added that solution into the video to assist children with this new wire and how it is different than a normal wiring setup.

  2. While we were in the process of developing these animations, it was decided that it would be nice if the animations taught children how to use the new sensor addons.

Art Direction

Original vision of the product had real world video mixed with infographics. This distinct separation in the middle of the experience felt jarring, so a new character and scene was developed. The first version had the character fully animated, then after feedback, a new character/scene was to be the vessel for this information.
